NAMING THE NEW STATION.
Sir,—l see by Saturday's issue, of your paper that you still persist in your efforts to blast one .of the most magnificent features of the landscape that any of the great cities of.the world might well bo proud of by branding it for all time with ' the ridiculous and senseless name "Etako." You might just as well call the! mountain ' "Jacko." ' The names are twin brothers and as you are evidently so. enamoured with this'description of name, why don't you rename Mount Vicyou could call it "Moiint Sambo."' Then there is Mount Cook; to be consistent you could call it "Mount Lambo." Then you would have a glorious combination of mountain names that , would make the little hills of Greece, Athehs,' and' Rome hide their hoary heads With very shame. You would also have this delightfuUfamil.v of names for this city, ■ "Etako," "Jacko," "Jumbo," and "Sambo." Surely this ought to satisfy even, the fastidious taste of the Editor of The Dominion. You- know very well that'many of the "old settlers" who remain after bearing tho heat and burden of 60 or 70 years' pioneering in this far-off corner of 'the Empire would like to have the netv wireless station named after .Colonel ''Wakefield, . the-' founder 'of this', city 'and the chief agent in securing these islands' for lis and our descendants as long as they prove themselves worthy to hold tlieui) and further, you know that the Government .are .considering- the.,naming of. the mount. after.' the. -■•' lorigifbrgotten " " Wakefields.—l aril, etc., / • r J. H. COLLIER. :. "Creswick " Northland; - October 7.., v '. TAnparently. our correspondent is labouring under "the" delusion that Thf, Dominion Ms responsible for the name given to thi> new wiieless' station on the Tiuakori Hills. We-shall be delighted to call it the Wakefield Wireless Station should'-'a. change, bo decided oh. Indeed, if the pioneers referred to are anxious about the matter, we. trust the' Government will see its way/to meet them at once.]
