DOCTORS AND SECRET COMMISSIONS.
Sir, —Eegarding tho statements made in the House of : Representatives 011 the Pharmacy Bill, that dqctors were in the habit of. getting secret commissions from chemists, I wish as a chemist of over 27 years experience in the Dominion to state that I have never heard of a case where a doctor, received a commission from a chemist, and I havo been in charge of • chemists' shops all over, the country. .Sometimes a. doctor knows a chemist to bo specially' qualified, and recommends his patient to have his prescription , made up at tHe particular chemist's shop, andthe chemist perhaps in return recommends the doctor. With regard to the Pharmacy Bill, it should be pftblicly noted that the Pharmacy, Board are endeavouring to get an. amendment of the-law so that they ■ can use - their ■ funds ' for the benefit of students by establishing means for their education. At present' each qualified chemist in business in the Dominion pays ,10s.,'yearly- towards the expenses of tho Pharmacy Board,-but the; law'does not at present allow this money to be used for tho benefit of their apprentices' education. —I am; -etc., ■ . . : THOMAS JOHNSTONE,
