THE RAILWAY SERVICE.
(By Telegraphy Press Association.) Christchurch, October 8. At a largely-attended, meeting of the North. Canterbury branch of the Railway Officers' Institute, tho following resolutions were carried unanimously:—(l) This inoeting approves of the action of tho delegates in deciding to continue our demands for equality of treatment with other branches of tho public service, and will do all in its favour to assist tho ( institute in furthering tho objects in view. (2) This meeting is of opinion that the reply of tho Minister is inadequate to satisfy the officers of tho railway service. (3) We consider that if the Department bases the salaries of railway officers on the percentages .of (irotit, it places these officers in a position unenviably unique in the public service of the Dominion. (4) Wo consider that if such practice be enforced, it will bo the duty of the officers to criticise the policy of tho administration of tho railways. (5) No just, and sufficient reasons havo been given why our salaries and other conditions should not be equal tfl tho jwy of nliicers in other public services ot the Dominion.
