(From Our Special Correspondent.) • :—' Sympathy is felt by Petone people in respect to the case of Mrs. Cooke, whose husband was accidentally killed at the Petono Workshops on Friday last. Yesterday at a'meeting of employees iat the Petone Workshops it was resolved to appoint a eominittee, consisting of representatives from every department, with authority to issue subscription lists, and to ; assist;'iu nil"entertainments for the benefit of Mrs.' Cooke. Mr. Pearson, who presided,. remarked'.tliat lie knew that those ' present; felt the deepest sympathy _ for Mrs. Cooke,"and, as on similar occasions, •he felt assured that the employees would shoW' thdir, sympathy in a practical way. • (Hear, hear.) ' Air,' Cambourne was elected treasurer-of tha committee. The late Mr. ' Cooke was a member of the Railway Sick Penefit Society, and in consequence Airs. -Gpoko-receivcit' a cheque for <820 10s. last Saturday.'.from tho .secretary.
