NAVALS' SOCIETY.
f The annual meeting of the Wellington Aavals' Boating Society was held in tho club rooms last evening, Lieutenant M. E. Denniston presiding. Tho annual report, which was adopted, stated that an excursion to l'etone was carried out on the (lav of tiro annual cutter raeo for "The White Horse Cup." A large number of members and friends attended to witness tho race between crews from the old Fctono and Wellington Navnls' Associations. A benefit night at His Majesty's Picture Theatre realised tho sum of .-fiS 10s. 3d. for the funds of the society. So as to encourage members to make use of the boat station, the committee purchased a small pleasure boat for £9. It has boon well used, also a bagatelle table, which was purchased for £2. Tho question of e. billiard .table was under consideration, but the committee' considered tho amount required was beyond tho society at present. It was recommended to the incoming committee that they "go into the question of printing rules, *ctc, and, also, if fuuds are available, procure light rowing boats and outriggers. The comniittee granted permission to the Garrison Hall Trustees for the Fifth Ecgi» mental Band to use tho social hall as a practice room two nights a week. Tho trustees have promised a donation of ,£25 per year. Another application was received from a cadet corps to use tho social room as n lecture hall, but this was not entertained, as it was felt that this would be infringing on the rights of members if the, hall were closed too often. Two offers were received for the purchase of one of the cutters, but it was considered tho prjees offered were 100 low for the committee to recommend their acceptance. The committee regrets to report (hat during tho year Messrs. W. M'kny (deputy-captain* and A. Trevor (committee) tendered their resignations as members ; Messrs. E. Stevens and G. Fiebig were elected to fill their positions. In conclusion the committee strongly urged upon every officer nnd member to" take a live interest in the society; lo assist th<incoming committee by ,-eeiirini; new members and attending social gatherings which may l>e arranged during the year.
