Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Danncvirke. report haying held their usual fortnightly sale in their Miller's Road Yards on Friday last. There was' a fair entry of cattle, but only two -lines of fcheep came forward. Cattle were particularly dull of sale, it being very hard to get offer under the hammer. The firm offered the only two pens of fat cattle in tho yards, and quote as follows-.-Fat heifers, light-weights, £6 15s. and £6: from Blnirgowrie, cows in calf, up to £7; ewes with lambs', 17s. 6a..; fat ewes, 19s. 6d. Tho bulk of the entry of cattle had to bo passed in. Bidding failed to reach owners' ideas of value. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on the annual Bale of hoggets, held at Marton on Thursday last, on account of Messrs. L. 11. and H. L. Hichards:—Some 7000 head were yarded, and buyers were present in (rood numbers, the Waikato, Taranaki, Wnnganni, and Palmerston districts being well represented. Bidding was spirited throughout, and we have to report a successful sale at the following prices:— Ewe hoggets, 16s. 7d., 175., 17s. 3d.; medium hoggets, 14s. Bd., 15s 4d.;'cull hoggets, 12.5. Id.; wether hoggets, 14s. lid., 15s. 6d., 15s. 10d.; medium hoggets, to lfc. 3d.; cull hoggets, 9s.'Zd.; mixed hoggets (culls), 11s. Id. to Us.- 5d.: Komricy ram hoggets, 21 guineas; English Leicester hoggets, 11 guineas. Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.. and Itcduced, report as follows:—At Feilding on Friday, we had a representative yarding of both sheep and cattle, which sold readily at late rates. Sheep made a total clearance. Wo quote as follows:—Ewes and lambs, 12s. Bd. to 14s. 6d.j empty ewes, 13s. 3d.: fat ewes, 17s. 3d. to 165.; fat wethers, 165., 2<te. to '215.; ewe hoggets, 15s. 6d.; yearling heifers, £3 6s. to £3 125.; empty cows, £4. On Wednesday we conducted a, most successful clearing sale on account of Mr. Daniel Fabling, : all lines filing well under the hammer. Cows made from £9 up to £16, tho herd averaging £11 7s. 'We quote:— Yearling heifers, £3 to £3 12s. 6d.; bulls, £5 7s. 6d.: horses, sundries, and harness sold at full market rates. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., and Itcduced, report:— We held our Pahautanui cattle sale at our yards on Friday last, when we offered a large yarding of cattle to a full representation of buyers, who were present from Shannon, Levin, Otalci, Waikanae, Hutt, and surrounding districts. The sale opened well, and under the hammer the whole of our yarding, with the exception of one small pen, changed hands at highly satisfactory prices. .Wo sold 3-year-old steers to £5 10s. 6d.: 2-year-old st.te.Ts, from £4 16s. 6d. to £5 55.; 18-month steers, from £3

NORTH OTAGO MARKETS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Oamaru, October 6. The announcement of a Tise in the grain freights to the Old Country has had a depressing effect on the markets, and millers who are beginning to operate have drawn out in anticipation of lower values. Sales of Velvet have been mado at 3s. 7»d. net , at handy country stations, including a line of 100 sacks. \ For a mixed line, nearly all Tclvct, 3s. 7d. was paid, and Tuscan has realised 3a. 6Jd. net at a, country station. There is practically no business doing in oats. A Grades have sold at 2s. and 2s. Old. net at country etations. and a small line of Duns at 2s. ex store. There are not many offering, but the market has a weaker feeling. Potatoes have about como to a standstill. There is little inclination to buy, and only a few. small lots have been bought during the week at. £6 10s. net on trucks and £6 15s. delivered in Oaraaru.
