PERSONAL ITEMS.

Vice-Regal. His Excellency the Governor is due back in Wellington from Kew. Plymouth this evening. The Oscar Asche-Lily Brayton Dramatic Company arrived from Auckland by special train last night. Mr. Garnet G. Bell ivas on Saturday admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court by the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), on tho motion of Mr. .T. W. Macdonald. Mr. Bell is resigning his position in the Supremo Court Office to join tho legal branch of the Public Trust Office. Mr. Alfred Curtis was presented with a handsome clock on Saturday morning, in view of his approaching marriage, by his colleagues on the staff of the Wellington Meat Export Company. Mr. Gray made the presentation iu a fen , appropriate remarks, and Mr.. Curtis suitably replied. Mr. Theo. Trezise, of Wellington, who for some time, past has been engaged at tho London Opera House, is now to pla.y leading man in "Tlorodora" on tour. Mr. 'Trezise served in the Railway Land Office and Signals Branch of the Railway Maintenance Department.

The B«y. B. L. Thomas, of Nelson, has accepted the position of minister to the Masterton Congregational Church, rendered vacant by the resignation of tho Rev. T. Q. Butler. Mr. Harold Whittle, \yho was pianist with the Madame de Cisneros Concert Company, is at present staying in Wellington -with his father, who is an officer of tho Bank of New Zealand and well known in bowling circles. Mr. Whittle, jun., leaves for Sydney on Saturday next, Mr. J. J. Craig has been appointed Acting-Consul for Chile at Auckland by the Consul-General for Chile at Sydney. The /appointment has been provisionally recognised by the Governor. Dr. Cowan, late of tho Union Company's steamer Jlnkura, has been appointed medical officer to the Tongan Government, Br. Bolton, who-held that position, having resigned and gone to Sydney. Dr. Cowan has token up his duties at Haabai. Sir James Mills will be a passenger by the Marnmii on her next voyage from Vancouver. Mr. P. H. Joyce ha-s been transferred from the Magistrate's Court, Duncdin, to the Supreme Court stnff in Wellington. Mr. J. M. Rogers, of lnvcrcargill, is to succeed Mr. Joyce in Duuediu.
