~♦: FOR MUNICIPAL SEETANT3. City Councillor E. Fletcher's proposal regarding superannuation for the municipal servants was brisPj before the City Council again, last night. At a special meeting of tbo Wellington City Council on Monday night Councillor B. Fletcher moved:—"That it is that a scheme of superannuation for Ok employees of the corporation be established on the lin?s of the Local Authority' Superannuation Act, 190S, and Amendment Act, l!) 12, and that with this in view the council hereby resolves to obtain ao soon as possible an .ictuafinl report on tho whole question, showing whal lespectire contributions from tho corporatio.u and tho employees ure necessary If. afford reasonable b?ncfit« f o the contriwitors as well'as lo make the- scherae financially sound." This'was enrrird, and it was decided that the nfolion should l>? referred to the Finance Committee for the consideration of .the principles on which the schema was to to established, fllfo the data, and the cost. At last night's meeting of the council the following recommendation was - received from the Finance Committee:— "That application be made to tha Minister in charge of the .Government Insurance Department for the seivices of Jlr. Moiris Fox for the preparation of tha report on the superannuation scheme, and als.i that the officers be authorised to supply the actuary with the ncce«?iiry daln,' riz., a complete Jist of employe.-*, lcmjth of service, nges, and wages." When the recommendation was brought up for approval or disapproval, Councillor J. Trevor opposed it. He said that he did not lwlievo in employing a man to get out a report of this kind, and then have it gone no further with, as he was sure would be the fats nf this proposal of Councillor'Fl?leher. He objected to ocifl Dortion of tho ratepayers paying for another portion. If the scheme were put into operation it would very likely cost Wellington a good deal. He hoped that the thing would go no further. Councillor Fletcher nojjjd that the council would not "stultify itself" by adopting the course proposed by Councillor Trevor. The recommendation was adopted.
