PHILATELIC SOCIETY.

■ ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the New Zealand Philatelic Society states that during the year tllo following displays have been held:—British Central, East and South Africa, Zanzibar (Sept.), New Zealand (issues from 1555 to 187-2 only), (Oct.), British North America (Nov.), France and Colonies (Dec), India Straits Settlements (March), Holland and Colonies ' (May), West Indies (June), German Empire (July), Mauritius, Seychelles, St. Helena, and British West Africa (Aug.). Ten new mombers have been elected, while one has died, nine resigned, and three have- been dropped. The number on the roll is now 118, as against 121 at tho commencement of tho year. "It is with much regret (says the secretary's report) that I have to report thnt ill-health has prevented Mr. Acocks resuming his duties as exchange superintendent, a position he has held with conspicuous success for the past seventeen years. Only those behind the Bcenes know what a tower of strength Mr. Atocks has lwen to the society, and it is no exaggeration to say that it is solely due to his own solid work and tku enthusiasm he instilled into others that the society is in existence to-day. As successor to Mr. Acocks tho society has been fortunate in securing the services of Mr. A. J. Bennett, a philatelist of long experience, under whoso guidance we may expect this branch of the society to give tho same satisfaction that' it has given in the past. The past season has been tho most successful on record:—s2B sheets, containing approximately 19.000 stamps of tho gross value of 4:2696 17s. 5d., have been placed on circuit. The sales for the same period amount to X'so3 ss, Bd., and commission .£2l. The financial position of the society is very satisfactory. Our total liabilities amount to .£59 12s. 7d., U, meet which wo have .£lO2 :)■;. Bd. in cash and i£4s 17s. 7d. bcok debts—a total of .£l4B Is. 3d. The- actual profits for the year were X2O 18s. 3d. The decision of the society to publish a handbook on the stamps of the Dominion has met with general approval. A sub-committoo, consisting oj'Messrs. A. Hamilton, E. U. Pilcher, \V. JolliiVe, and tho lion, secretary was appointed to collect ninterial, and later Mr. .Toliffo was appointed editor. Mr. Joliffe is a writer of experience, and one peculiarly fitted for the work in hand. Mr. Joliffe has been granted access to the Government records, and has much valuable information in his possession dealing with the postal history of the country. The Royal Philatelic Society has also granted us permission to make use of tho whole of the notes collected on their lwhalf by Jlr. A. T. Bat?, F.R.P.S.L., and later by Mr.' A. Hamilton, F.L.S., and have promised to render us all the assistance in their power.'' .
