PROHIBITION QUESTION.
: MASS MEETING AT AUCKLAND.' (By Telejraph.-Press Association.) Auckland, October-1. A mass meeting, .which practically fill«Uthe. iown Hall,- passed the following resolution to-night:-"(a) That, believing in' the democratic principle of majority rule in'public matters, this meeting deems that-settlement of the local option and national prohibition questions at the poll should at once come- under this rule, (b) As; a step towards securing this position this meeting expresses its approval of the action' of the annual convention of the New Zealand Alliance in seeking to obtain, in. all electorates.signatures of voters to the following pledge:-! hereby give my..pledge that, regardless-,of part}-, I will riot, at. the next election, give my vote .to any. candidate for Parliament who will:not promise, if elected, to do his utmost tb remove—or at least substantially reduce—the present unjust conditions, upon, both the issues of No-License and National Prohibition.'" After the meeting 830 pledges were taken.
