OSCAR ASCHE SEASON.

Mr. Fritz Russell (s!.age manager) and the advance nicchanical and electrical staff of. the Oscar Ascho-Lily Brayton Company arrived from Auckland yesterday, bringing with them the scenery and elfects for "Kismet," the Oriental dramatic spectacle which is to be sfaged at tho Opera House on Monday, night next. Tho piece will be staged with the original .scenery, painted by the famous artist, Mr. Joseph Murker, and every piece of stage furniture and the whole of the wardrobe aud effect were manufactured in England, and used in the London production. There is a vast amount of preliminary work to be undertaken to prepare for "Kismet." The whole of the Stage of tho Opera House will have to bo cut away for tho purpose of building the large swimming bath which is a feature of the famous harem scene. A quantity of- additional electric current will havo to bo installed for the numerous lighting effects, and other alterations will have to bo made to tho listing apparatus in tho theatre. Tho largo stall' which arrived yesterday has been considerably augmented locally, and everything, it is stated, will be ill readiness for tho final scenery and lighting rehearsal on Saturday night next. Messrs. Plinuucr and Dennislon have courteously given Mr. Williamson's stuff rcrinisrimi to utilise the stag''during the day tinie for the balance of the season. Only five representations can be given of "Kismet," and during the season, which is limited to 18 nights, the following Shiil:»--«cai-an productions will b« staged. "The Taming of the Shrew," "Othello," "The Merchant of Venice, ' and "The Merry Wives of Windsor.' The box plans for the "Kismet," season will- bo opened ot the Dresden on Thursday morning next at 9 o'clock. A queue will be formed at S a.m.
