Memorial to Mrs, Selwyn. A memorial to Mrs. Selwvn, wife of tho first and only Bishopof New Zealand, is to bo placed in St.. Mary's Cathedral, l'arnell, wnere it. will form an appropriate companion to that lately erected to tho memory of Mrs. Cowic. Mrs. Selwyn, who died at Lichfield, England, five years ago, at the advanced ago of 97, was the daughter of Sir John Richardson, some timo a Justice in the Court of Common Pleas. She lived iu New Zealand from 1812 to 1868, durin? which timo slio was a constant help and support to her husband in his great and arduous work. Thero are few now remaining of her Now Zealand friends, but so great was her influence during the 2G years she was in tho country that her memory will over bo revered by both races. The window, which is tho gift, of one of her New Zealand friends, has beeil ordered from Messrs. Clayton and Bell, and may bo expected in about six months. A drawing-room sale of work in connection with • St. John's Young Women's Guild takes place this afternoon at tho residence of Mrs. Allan, 323 Willis Street, and will bo continued in the evening. Invitations have been issued by Mr. and Mrs. Leonard W. M'Kenzie for the marriage of Miss Lilian Ethel W. M'Kenzio and Mr. Alfred' William W. Curtis, in St. John's Church on Wednesday, October 9. A reception will afterwards be held at "Allendale," Dufferin Street. At Petono yesterday afternoon the death occurred of Jlrs. Brocklehurst, widow of the late Mr. J. Brocklehurst. Deceased, who was a very old resident of Hutt Valley, was 75 years of age, She leaves two sons and six daughters. Miss Betty Purdom, as "Dolly Varden" in the coming Dickens' Festival, will wear a quaint and dainty costumo of the period, carried out in an effective colourschemo of heliotrope and brown, with bodTco and paniers of chintz, quilted skirt, and beribboned bonnet. Tho sketch, depicting the coquettish characterof "Dolly Varden," has been adapted and arranged from "Baraaby Rudge" by Miss Purdom. .
