In,tho ing ho received a deputation from thet Auckland district of tho H.A.C.B. Society* It consisted of Mr. D. Flynn (vico-presi-dent), Mr. \T. Kane (district fccretaryh and Mr. M. J. Sheahan' (district trraw urer). Bishop Clcary was present, and in' traduced tho deputation to tho Sfc'tropdi* tan. Mr. Shea linn staled that their object, was to get tho approval of tho Metro* polilan and of tho Hierarchy to a scheme*' for the federation of tho Catholics o? Now Zealand on the lines adopted in Vic-* ; torin, the object being to promote and ,' safeguard (he interests generally of tho members of tho Church, and particularly in connection with Catholic schools audi education. Mr. Sheahan referred to what had been accomplished on those lines iri Victoria and also in Germany as a reason for wanting a similar federation in New Zealand. Mr. Sheahan, on behalf of tho deputation, also congratulated his Graofc upon having recently eolebrated his jubilee of tho Episcopacy. Archbishop Itadwood, after thanking the', deputation for kindly expressions, said he could assure tho members of his hearty approval of the proposal to form n Catholic federation, and added that with tho assistance of the Bishop of Auckland lie would put that approval in writing Move his departure for Rome. ,' The Archbishop subsequently attended? the concert, in the Town Hall, acconH panied by Father O'Dogherty, of St. Pat* rick's Cathedral, and Messrs.
