THE POPE'S CORONATION.
CELEBRATION OF TENTH ANNIVERSARY. • No celebration occurred on August 4 for the anniversary of the election of Pius X as Pope, as the function was reserved for August 9, which was the tenth anniversary of his. coronation. Tho event had special importance this year, hecauso it completes tho ninth year of the reign of Pius X, thus destroying tlio legend that ho would not surpass that limit as Pontiff. The celebration took place in tho Sistine Chapel in tho presence of the Sacred College, the Patriarchs, Archbishops, Bishops, and tho whole • ecclesiastic and lay "Papal Court. The Pope", who woro tho triple crown and the Papal mantle, entered tho chapel on foot, preceded and followed by tho Noblo and the Swiss Guards. Tho Diplomatic Body, the Roman aristocracy, and the Knights of the Order of Malta assisted from special tribunes. In, another tribune were the sisters and the niece of the Pope, who had returned purposely to Rome, from Montecatini, where they! have been taking the Itaths. The Mass was celebrated by the Secretary of State (Cardinal Merry del Val), as the first Cardinal created by the present Pope, and the 'music was provided by the Papal choir, directed by Maestro Lorenzo Perosi. The Pope look, cd extremely well, doubtless owing to tho exceptionally cool summer in Rome this year. His Holiness gave 2000 lire to bo distributed to the poor, through free food kitchens.
