PETONE FIRE BOARD. A meeting of. the Totono Fire Board was held at I'etono yesterday afternoon, and was attended by : Messrs. Mothes (chairman),'■ White, Smith, Piper, Kcuipr thorne, Short, aiid M'Ewan. The annual report and balance-sheet (which showed £J32 Is. 7(1." and an excess of. assets over liabilities of . i! 1045) was adopted. A report was submitted by Inspector Hugo on the efficiency of the brigade, and was considered very satisfactory. A petition signed by 76 residents in the vicinity of tha new station asked that the board should substitute tho electric alarm system for that of ringing tho old firebell. Mr. Kempthorne moved: "That a reply be 6ent stating that tho board could not meet the expense of tho proposed change at present." " After some discussion, the motion was carried. It was decided to leave the matter of erecting a refuse bin in the hands of the chairman and Mr. Piper. 'It was decided, on the motion of. Mr,. White, that in future the secretary lay 011 tho tablo a financial statement at each meeting.' Mr. Wilson's resignation as secretary was received. The appointment of a successor was held over. The New Plymouth Fire BoaTd asked for co-operation in the matter of a reduction in the charges of fire board telephones. PETONE. SPORTS'CLUB. The annual general meeting of the Petone Junior Athletic Club was held last evening. Mr. Hardham occupied the chair, and ithere was a good attendance. ■ ; The report and financial statement, which wero adopted, showed a steady increaso in both membership and funds. The Evening meetings had proved very successful, and there was a credit balance of •i 3 10s. The report was adopted. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. W. Taylor; vice-presidents, Messrs. IT. J.. Palmer, W. Hardham, and E. L. Barnes; hon. secretaryj Mr. G. Findlay; hon. treasurer, Mr.'A. Bennett; committee, Messrs. Dent, Taylor, Price, W. Ryan, and House; delegate to association, Mr. E. Price: auditor, Mr. J. Lynskcy; starter, Mr: W. J. Hardham; handicappers, Messrs. Fraser, Wakelin; timekeepers, Messrs. Barnes, Fraser, and Tre-~ pear; judge's, Messrs. Ryan, Wright, Rose, Palmer, and Martin; referee, Mr. J. Lynsfcey.
