\ PIONEERS OP CIVILISATION.
High appreciation of tho work dona by; Native School teachers was expressed by, tho Hon. W. n. Herries (Native Minister) when the Estimates of the Department of Education were being reviewed in tho House of Representatives last evening. These people, 6aid Mr. Herries, were not only teachers but pioneers of civilisation in tho back-blocks. They did work which in. a great many instances wos not appreciated by those who knew very little about tho work they did.
The Ministers words of praise vrer« heartily echoed by the Hon. A. T. Ngata, Dr. To Rangihrroa, Mr. W. D. S. Macdon< aid and Mr. J. A. Young. The TTou. Dr. Pomare said that the Native teocher in many cas?s Was the solo suide. philosopher, and friend of tlie Maori.
