Mr. J. B. Harcourt, president of tho Wellington Racing Club, in addressing members at the annual meeting last night, referred to the loss sustained b.v the club through tho death of Messrs. Jno. Cotter, T. G. Macarthy, F. W. Hales, and Chas. Bateson. ' "Mr. Macarthy, although ho has not taken an activo'part in the affairs of tho club lately, occupied this choir for many years, with credit to himself, and for tho club's welfare," said the president. "I would also, like to socially refer to the services rendered by tho late Mr. Clias. Bateson. Mr. Hanby's leg had to be amputated between th'B lcneo and the ankle, but, under skilful attention, the. wound is healing as well as could be desired. y At tho Wellington Bowling Club's pavilion last niglit Mr. H, Prico was accorded a very hearty farewell. Tho gathering was a very large one, and a highly enjoyable evening was spent. Tho members of the Bowling Club presented Mr. Trice with a gold albert and a sovereigncase. , To-day Mr. Prico leaves for Christchurch, where he will in future reside. The death took place at Wellington yesterday of the Rev. John Hutcliin, of tho Lon'don Missionary Society, at Rarotouga. Sir. Hutcliin has been stationed at Rarotonga for tho last thirty years. In February last Mr. Hutcliin returned from n. two years' furlough in I,ondon, and in March returned to Rarotouga. Ho Ua<l been ill for the last three or four months, and arrived in Wellington with Mrs. Hutcliin by tho Aorangi on her last trip. Mr. Hutcliin underwent an operation on Thursday last, and he died yesterday afternoon. Ho was between 60 and 70 years old, and is survived by Mrs. Hutcliin, four daughters, and one son. Tho son ftnd the eldest daughter aro married.
