SUPREME COURT.
THE.T. Ct. MACARTHY TRUST BILL. Tho Thomas George Macarthy Trust Bill formed the subject of an inquiry in the Supreme Court yesterday morning before Mr. Justico Chapman. Under the Legislature Act, 1908, his Honour was asked to grant a certificate that the objects of the Bill are unattainable except by legislation. Mr. A. Fair appeared for the Board of Trustees; Mr. J. W. Macdonald, solicitor to tho Public Trust Office, for the Public Trustee; and Mr. H. H. Ostler, of the Crown Law Office, appeared for the Solici-tor-General. The Bill proposes to incorporate (with perpetual succession and a common seal) tho Governor, tho Prime Minister, the Roman Catholic Archbishop, and the Mayor of Wellington, under'the name of the Board of Governors of the Thomas George Macarthy Trust. Provision is made for the successors of the trustees and acting occupants of the offices mentioned. Power is asked for the board to accept and administer other charitable bequests and to hold lands. In addition to the powers given by the Bill, the board may exercise the powers given by the will of deceased. Provision is also made for the api>ointment of an advisory committee to assist tho boa-rd, and other minor provisions ore also included in the Bill.
His Honour granted the necessary certificate.
