NAVY LEAGUE.

THE CONFERENCE CONCLUDED. The Navy League Conference resumed f its sittings in open meeting yesterday E afternoon, the forenoon having been de- S voted to committee business. Tho Rev. £ Eliot Chambers presided, and there were J also present: Messrs. C. 11. Smith and R. 5 Darroch (Wellington), C. W. Palmer 1! (Nol&ou), G. N. Arber, and Captain Tre- f leaven (Canterbury). The business of the 8 conference .was concluded-shortly beforo | 4 p.m., and the rtelcgntos subsequently B adjourned to Parliament House, where they were the guests of the Hon. James . Allen, Minister for Defence, at Bellamy's. Itjvas resolved to forward to the bead offico in London a suggestion that 011 c , or more of'the Navy Leaguo missioners at present in Canada should extend their tour to New Zealand, and, if possible, to Australia also. It was decided that in such centres where the Navy League movement was not flourishing, members of chambers of commcrco and other influential citizens should be approached with tho object of stimulating the establishment anil increase of league branches throughout Now ' Zealand. Tho matter of preparing wall charts setting forth the objects of tho Navy League, for circulation in tho public schools, was left to Mr. G. N. Arber. _The conferenco further resolved to invito league branches to submit opinions on. tho question of contributing to the cost of maintaining a permanent secretary for lecturing and organising work.' Tho hearty thanks of the conference were, by resolution, accorded to his Excellency the Governor, (Lord Islington) for his keen interest in the aims and work of tho Navy League, and for his able address to tho delegates at tho inaugural session. Thanks were also extended to the Hon. James Allen and members of Parliament, to the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. D. M'Laren) for his courtesy in according the use of a room for the meetings, to Mr. G. N. Arber (editor of tho "Navy League Supplement"), and to tho press of New Zealand.
