TRADE IN ALLEN STREET. Vegetables—Rhubarb is in heavy sup-, ply, and is cuniing forward almost daily from the Lower Hutt. Spring cabbages and cauliflowers are bringing extreme rates, and.consignments can be-recommend-ed. Parsnips aro ruling at extremely low rates, whilst good'table carrots are in excellent demand. Good heavy lettuces are in strong demand,, and high prices are obtainable. ' „ , FTuit—The Maunganui, due from Sydney to. day, is bringing the usual weekly ahipiuent of, mandarins,' passion fruit, Seville orangee, pineapples, sweet oranges, and loquats. The shipping i-paee available is small. Even if n large supply of grain were offering it would be difficult to make arrangements for cxDortins. There is no movement whatever in wheat. Potatoes are ftill dull. There is no demand lor export to Australia, the lateness of the season making it risky to ship i-uch a. distance. Northern markets are apparently well supplied, and arc not prepared to pay the prices lately ruling in view of the fact that competition for the Australian trade has ceased. The price 1* nominally about £6 at country stations.. Brisk retail business is donig in all kinds of agricultural seeds, the long spell of fine weather having enabled the farmers to push on the spring work. O, Licht, the well-known- sugar expert of jUadgcburp, in the monthly circular, states that the production of beet sugar in Eurouc shows a decrease of 1685,000 tons. He estimates that for the season there will be a total falling-off of 1,759,000 tons.
