Wedding at Wnihl. In St. John's Churcb, Wnihi, the matriage took place on Wednesday of Mis 3 Maribol' Lawlor, fourth. daughter of Jlr. and Mrs. George LawloV, of Kenny Street, Waihi, and Mr. George Harris, of tho Geological Survey Department, Wellington, much interest being displayed in the event,, as the family has many friends in Waihi. The bride, who wiis given away by her father, wore n gown of soft oriental satin, slightly trained and draped with beautiful old Limerick lace. A long tullb veil was enught in with orange blossoms, and she carried a shower bouquet of white flowers. The four little bridesmaids (three of whom, were nieces of the bride), Olivo and JlCnribel flodd, Heather Lusk,. and.Dorothy -Toy, wore dainty -.little, frocks- of- white, bailsfom; muslin with ;pink and; blue ribbons, nnd carried baskets of maidenhair fern. < Miss' Lawlor, .maid of honour,, wore grey Shniitung ■ silk , with fichu of lace," and , hat'of .'gray tagel straw, wreathed with ftifchia-tinted.roses. Mr. J. M.- ■\y'rigloy was thi' best mau. Tho bridegroom's present to'the bride- was a gold cable bangle,, to' Miss Lawlor n pearl neck pendant,-and to the bridesmaids little gold name brooches. 'J'he service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Cleary. A reception was afterwards' , ', held nt tho home of : the bridesmaid's ' parents,' and the bride and bridegroom left later in the day for the soufh,' en. route to Wellington. .■••.-•-■•' For the University peform 'Association. For the' benefit of the University Reform Association a»tea wns given in Bartlett's rooms, Willis' Strtet, on Saturday nfternoon under tlic 'direction of Mrs. Vlurstho'use, and, combining business with pleasure, a sale of home-made cakes, Bweets, fancy \vork, and flowers was held as well. Four or five rooms were placed nt the disposal of Mrs., Hursthouse, and in each one the guests ■ found something of interest nnd something desirable to acquire. The most beautiful flowers had .been, sent in from the-Hutt arid from Lowry'Bay', and these very soon found purchasers. Many were present during the afternoon,- and the cause would no doubt have benefited to -a satisfactory' extent. Two or three rooms were given up to tea, the tables and 'the rooms generally, being fraernnf and bright' with spring flowers. The Hon. R. H. Rhodes and Mrs. Rhodes were among those present. W.C.T.U, . There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the W.C.T.U., which was held in the V.M.C.A. Rooms on Friday afternoon. Mrs. Atkinson presided. As there was soino misunderstanding about the date of the celebration o'f Franchise Day, which was held last week, the public was not sufficiently intimated.Consetfueutly arrangements arc' being mado to celebrate it at pome future date. A good deal of business was transacted, nnd a report was given o'f the district convention held recently in Mastorton.
Girls' Realm.Guild. A lijien tea, the proceeds of which are to be devoted towards the funds of the. Girls' Bcalm Guild, for its November tote, was held rvt the. residence of Mrs. Brownlce on Saturday afternoon. Music and one or two amusing competitions entertained those present, and tea was served in the dining-room, 'the table being prettily arranged with spring flowers. Songs ■ were sung by Mrs. Claridge, the Misses Mueller, Young (2), Hurley, and Redmond. : Mr. J. A. Young (member for Waikato) was quietly married on Saturday morning to Miss Wood, of Hamilton. Thetrido was given away by Mr. Geo. Kay, of Kawa, Waikato, and after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Yournj left by the Main Trunk express for Hamilton. Mrs. E. W. MacLaren, accompanied by her daughter, Miss D. MacLaren, arrived in Wellington by the Corinthic from London on Saturday, on n tour of the Dominion. Mrs. J. Bidwill (Lower Wairarapa) and Mr. and Mrs.. Roy Barton left on,their return journey by motor from Napier to Featherston on Thursday. A very enjoyable children's plain and fancy-dress dance was given by Mrs. De Latour in the Marine Engineers' InBtitnte on Saturday evening, some very pretty and original costumes being seen. In spite of the somewhat unpleasant weather conditions on Saturday, a considerable number of visitors made their way out ■to the lleretaunga links to see tho finals or semi-finals of the matches plaj-ed off, and no doubt had not everything been so doubtful a gr'ofll ninny more Would have travelled out. Those who were not deterred by the dampness of the ground had the pleasure of watching most- interesting games. Among the visitors were the Count and Countess de Cisneros. .
