WANGANUI JOTTINGS.

BATHER SPIRITED ELECTION.' (By .Telegraph— Sneclal OorfeepondettU . Wanganui, September 19. Considerable interest was taken in yesterday's election of tho Gonvillo Town Board, this no doubt being owing to a strong agitation which has been carried on by a section of the electors against the old board. In tho course of this campaign a good many insinuations of maladministration and self-interest wcro circulated. The majority of Iho people of the district, however, served out tho | usual treatment accorded to those who indulged in such tactics, and returned all , the old members of the board who stood, j and another who-supported tho board's policy. The discontented ones polled only a sniall proportion of votes. In returning thanks to his supporters after the poll, Mr. A. G. Bignell, chairman of the board, gave some very plain talk. This afternoon saw another bazaar opened, its purpose being to provide funds for forming cricket grounds and tennis courts at the Technical College. After promising to support the Waverley A. and P. Association s choice of Mou-. mahaki (with Mnrton as "second string") as a site for tho proposed agricultural college, the Wanganui Agricultural Association has suddenly decided to pross the claims of its own iinmediato district. At a meeting of the association yesterday nfternoon, the point wae raised that the decision regarding Moumahaki and Marton was arrived at before the sub-commit-tee (previously appointed) bad been given sufficient time to look round and report on the matter. It was thereupon resolved to rescind the resolution in favour of co-operating with Waverley, and nlso resolved that, before pledging itself again, the association will ascertain if there arc anv suitable sites near Wangamii.
