Statistics of trade for Argentina for the first half of the'eurront year compare favourably with those, for the corresponding portion of 1911. In hides there is- disclosed an increase of .nearly half a million in the exports, the expansion bcin? due to the great demand, in the manufacturing markets of the world.. Horse hides ehow a considerable falling off. .Sheep skins arc pliphtlv below tho fieure? of. last. year, and goat skins continue, to increaso.. In wool there is an improvement of about 15,C00 bales for the half-year, but for the financial year (from October 1, 1911) there is a heavy falling off when oQmp,ared with the previous period. Tallow shows a .decrease. This may be due, to the fact that the packing companies now pay .moro attention to refining, and export it under another name. . Frozen meat exports decreas- i <*d it* • the numbor of 'carcasses of mutton, but there was a steady increase in quarters i of frozen and chilled beef, caused by the] ahortago of meat, in Endand. Cereal ship-1 menu compare favourably with last year. Wheat, at 1.870,922 tons, shows an increase j of 143,920 tons; maize, at. 1.110.004 tons, has .an increase of about I.CGfI.COO tons; and; oats, at 744.690 tons, a eain of about 80 "npir cent. Barley increased 100, per cent. "Flour shipment'?—sß.l94 tons—were slightly below 'last year's, but bran showed an increase of about 50 per cent. As regard* butter, comparisons with last year, when , .virtually nothing was exported, fl.re rot .of milch avail, but-compared with. 1909 and 1910 tho fltnires for the current year (56.078 I cases) show a considerable decrease.
