An interesting piece of lightering work was accomplished at Gisborrie on Monday in connection with the salvaging of gear from the Star of Canada. Under the direction of Mr. A. Mitchell. general manager for J. J, Niven and Co.. the captain's cabin,- chart room, and wheel-house, also portions of the captain's bridge, were repiored bodily, and brought ashore on one of Nelson Bros.'s barges, which resembled a houseboat as it came up the river with its unique cargo. A start was made on Friday Jast to get this portion of the ship adrift. With the oxyacetone apparatus tho iron deck and some of the ship's ribs were cut, and the two compartments, on top of the other, a lilt of about ten tons, were lowered over tho side of the .ship on to the barge. The feat is undoubtedly a meritorious one. and attracted a. good deal of interest. Several tenders have been received for the cabin, but so far none han been accepted. MESR-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. E.
