Owing to the illness, of several of the club's officinls olid members, the Mosterton Kaeinz Club has been compelled to abandon the- ball which it was proposed to hold this month. Messrs. A. \V. Hogg and H. Evans were to-day nominated for the vacant scat on the Mastcrton Trust Lands Trust. Considerable interest is being manifested in the election, which takes place on September 25. A new cheese factory at Matahiwi, a .few miles to tho west of Mastertou, was opened yesterday. Speeches were made, by tlia chairman of directors, and by Messrs. Taukorsley and, Fisher. The factory has been erected by Mr. J. Baillie for Messrs. J. B. MitcEwan and Co. An instructive demonstration was given in St. Matthew's Hall last night by the members of the nursing divisiou of St. John Ambulance, and for the benefit of the members of the Girls' Friendly So-
