At a meeting of the Temperance l!o----form Council to-nighl:,\a protest was made against the petition from the AYine Growers' Association presented' to Parliament by Mr. Campbell a few days ago. The council contends that the manufacture and sale of wine in New Zealand has been unduly encouraged in tho past, and that, in view of public opinion on the liquor question, the proper policy would bo to encourage file growth of table grapes and tho manufacture of raisins, and to repeal the existing law giving privileges to vino manufacturers and sellers.
