WORRIED TO DEATH.

WAini RESIDENT'S SUICIDE.

At an early hour on Friday morning John Harvey, residing in Moresby Avenue, Wailii, died under circumstances which point to self-destruction by a dose of lysol, said to have been .taken on Thursday night (writes the. He was formerly a blacksmith and tool-sharpener in tho employ of the Wailii Gold-mining Company, having lrecii in the service of .the company practically the whole time- he had "resided hero. Of Into years family troubles had pressed heavily upon him, and tho loss recently of a married son throw an additional tax upon him in assisting the maintenance of tho widow and several young children. Having been thrown out of employment as a result of the strike, the lato Mr. Harvey was in receipt of a comparatively small sum weekly, and it is supposed that inability to make adequate provision for the maintenance of those dependent upon him brought about a state of mental derangement which led to the committing of the rush act. A coroner's inquiry touching his death was held on Friday night, before Mr. W. F. Wallnutt, district coroner. The widow of deceased said that her husband had latterly been somewhat depressed, and had beeii worrying over financial aiid strike matters. Dr. Craig deposed thnt death was duo to lysol poisoning. N. P. Ga'uvnin, chief engineer of the Wailii Gold-mining Company, said that in conversation with • deceased on tho previous Saturday' the latter had said: "Those beggars in. the Miners' Union want me to go out watching, but I won't do it. They can shut me out of the' hall first."

The coroner returned « verdict that death was duo to lysol, administered by deceased while of unsound miud.
