PRISONERS' AID SOCIETY.
A meeting of the Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society was held in the room of. the Chief" j'usticc, Sir Eobert Stout, Supreme Court Chambers, on .Friday. Sir Kobert Kto-.it presideci, and other members present were Mrs. H. B. Richmond, Dr. M'Arthur. S.M.. Jle-srs. 11. H. Ostler. P. J. O'Rcgan, T. S. Lambert, P. L. Arnold, and B. Cummiiigs. V report was read on the work dono «ince July. This showed that tlwi executive committee .met at Dr. M'Arthur s> ;-oom every Saturday, and rcvieved all cases of release for the coming week, and arranged for their assistsmco if rea.mrcl Throuph a greater number of prisoners ■vives being helped than formerly, a comliitteo had been set up to devise means vhereby they con be assisted otherwise km by the society. Mr. K. Arnold has •one. excellent work in several cases uy /c-ttin" solicitors to conduct, tree ut charge, some of the cases where pnspn--rs had no friends; .and also in geliins one lad a position on a steamer, and another one sent home. Ex-prifoners helped.—July. 17 men and women; 15 beds and 3G meals; 2 cases with fares; 3 v;ith cash; a with telegrams; 3 with swags.
