MR. M NAB'S HISTORICAL RESEARCHES.
. fr_ —: APPRECIATION IN PARLIAMENT. The Prime Minister, the Hon. W. F. Massey, laid before thp House of Representatives- yesterday a return: ordered by the House oil tho following motion by ' Mr. G. Witty: —"That there be laid before' this House a. return showing the amount paid to the nou. E. M'Nab, ox-Miuister for Lands, towards his expenses in connection with his historical researches in connection with New Zealand, and, what each such payment was for, whether personal, travelling, or printing expenses." Tho return was "Nil." / Mr. A. S. Malcolm, member for Clutha, said he hastened to take the .opportunity of expressing: his appreciation for the research work Mr. M'Nab had done. The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher, Minister in charge of the Printing Office, said that the Government Printer had been advised by Mr. M'Nab that he did not propose to supply to the Printer any more information to bo embodied in his book. Ho (Mr. Nshcr) thought members all regretted the circumstances. Mr. M'Nab had 'done work . for tho country thnt could not bo repaid by nny sum of money; his services already rendered had been of inestimable vahie. Ho hoped Mr. M'Nab would overlook Hie unfounded criticism against him, and he (Mr. Fisher) bad, as a private citizen, written to Mr. M'Nab, asking him to reconsider his decision, and carry on the pxeat work that he had set out. to do for the nation.
Mr. G. W. Russell thanked the Minister for' Marino for his generous appreciation of Mr.' M'Nab, and suggested that Mr. Massey should ask Mr. M'Nab to 'reconsider his decision.
