Word has been received from the Post-master-General that ho has sanctioned tho completion of tho telephone line between Ore Ore and Knkatahi, and work will begin next month. This will give through telephone communication between AVanganui and Eaetihi, which will bo a boon not only to the business people in both places, but also to settlers who aro located in "the gap" that exists at present.

Tramway business continues to grow and, whilo tho extended system naturally swells the totals, the' figures for the borough portion also are well in advanco of the corresponding period of last year. For tho month of August the total revenue over the whole system was .£1046, of which the borough portion contributed .£946. The car mileage revenue in the borough was 12.10 d. per mile, as against 10.15 d. in August last year. Tho daily average in the borough was ,£3O, as against .£23 per day in the previous August. The number of pas?engi?rs carried was M 5.580, while the number carried for the samo month in 1911 was 107,711.
