DEATH OF MR. J. T. FOWLER.

AN INTERESTING CAREER. On Wednesdny morning, at Shortland'Si Esplanade, Napier, the death fook place of Mr. John Townshend Fowler, nt the ogo of 82. Ho was born in Bucktastloigh, Devonshire, England, in 1829, and in the year 1855 wont to Indie, where he occupied a prominent post on tho Indian Civil Service. He was in the Ecrvice mentioned for 35 years, and, on resigning in 1890, came to New Zealand, Roiiiß to reside with his sons in the bush, tho latter having tnken up land. Shortly afterwards he took up residence at Jlnsterton, where he resided until a few weeks ago when he arrived in Hastings on a visit '• to his son,' Mr. H. N. Fowler. A few daye ugo ho travelled to, Napier, where he was taken sud/lcnly ill. Captain Fowler loaves a gvowu-up family of five sons and two daughters. They are: Mr. H. N. Fowler, late of Waipulcnrau,' and recently removed to Hastinak having joined the firm of Messrs.. Lune and M'Carthy, laud and cstato agents,' Mr. E. C. Fowler, farmer, Masterton, Mr. H. L. Fowler, principal of Nelson College, Mr. W. Fowler, of tho Indian Mounted P.olice, and Mr. V. Fowler, also residing in this country with the daughters, ■ Misses G. and L, Fowler. *Tho funeral took place at Napier yesterday.
