THREE KINGS PERIL.
A. LIGHT NEXT YEAR. The provision of a light on tho Three Kings Islands will not l)o undertaken until next year. Tho policy of :he Marine Department will be to construct two main lights each year and the programme for this year will bo the lighting of North Capo and Castlcpoiut which will'- cost about ,£6OOO. Next vcar lighthouses will be constructed on tho Three Kings and at Terawhili. Inquiries aro beiug pursued by the Department regarding the best method of lighting tho danger of the Tlireo Kings., Ono of the difficulties to bo overcome is that of obtaining a landing upon any of the islands by which materials for tho lighthouse can bo delivered and afterwards stores taken to the lightkeepers. Arrangements nre being made by the Minister .for Marine for the State steamer Hinemoa to visit the Three Kings in December when further soundings and observations will be made. It is probable that the Minister will himself accompany the Departmental officers on that occasion.
