THE PUBLIC SERVICE BILL.
♦ SOME SUGGESTIONS. (Bj Telegraph— Press Association.) Dunodin, September 10. At a largely attended incotiug of Civil Servants last night to consider the Public Service Bill it was resolved to forward tho following remits to tho Executive of the Civil Service Association:— 1. That aspirants for appointment as Supremo Court judges. Arbitration Court judge, Native Land Court judges, Controller and Auditor-General, defence oflicers, iwlieo officers, railway servants, and legislative officers, be also disqualified if they obtain or attempt to obtain tho assistance of a member of tho General Assembly to procure appointment. 2. That M.P.'s and M.L.C.'s be deemed to commit a breach of the Act if they assist, or attempt to assist, anyone to a Government appointment, and that the punishment therefor bo forfeit of 6cat (This remit not to apply to members of the Ministry.) 3. That in tho event of commissioners being appointed to oontrol appointments, etc., ono of them bo selected from tho Civil Service. 4. That provision be made recognising, for grading and promoting ■ purposes, examinations already passed by officers. 5. That clericals nave an opportunity of being transferred to the professional division. G. That inquiries into allegations of misconduct bo conducted with strict regard to tho law of ovi donee. 7. That provision be mado for giving officers timely notico of a vacancy in-a higher position and affording them an op. portunity of applying therefor.
