The secretary to the Treasury (Mr. J. W. Poynton), in making the presentation, remarked upon Mr. Dunstan's capability as an officer, and also, his popularity with tho whole staff. Mr. Dunstan suitably replied. Tho presents consisted of a travelling-bag, set of silverware and cutlery, and also a dinner set. Mr. Edward Meek, of the architects' branch of tho Now Zealand Government Railways, has just received word from England that he has ben elected licentiate of tho Royal Society of British Architects. Mr. James B. Reid, 'of Elderslie, a director of' tho Bank of New Zealand, is returning to tho Dominion by the P. and O. steamer Macedonia, which was to have left London on August 9. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Asche wero entertained nt luncheon in Sydney recently by the council of the Shakespearean Society of New South Wales, when the toast of "Our Guests" was enthusiastically honoured: It was proposed by Mr. W. E. Hawkins, president of tho society, who spoko in high terms of Mr. Asche and his ivifo (Miss Lily Brayton) as exponents of tho Shakespearean plays, and mentioned tho general excellence of the supporting company. Mr. Asche, in tho courso of his reply, said this company was regarded in London us tho best Shakespearean Organisation in that city. He also announced that on his return from New Zealand ho would produce "Antouy and Cleopiitrn" and "Midsummer Night's Dream," oud r«virfi "Tim Merchant of Venice" wd "The Taming of the Sliraw/' '.
