FOUR SPECTATORS KILLED. By TeleErraph—Press Association—Copyright * ' (Rec. September 9, 10.10 p.m.) Paris, September 9. Mr. Beard, an aviator, was about to ascend at Gray, a town in Haute Saone, when ho lost control of his aeroplane, which was jumping along the ground. The machine somersaulted over a fence, with its propellor whirling and mowing down the spectators, who had gathered to witness the flight. Two men and two women were killed, and four others grievously injured. Mr. Beard himself escaped without injury. THE STONEHENGE FATALITIES. London, September 8. At an. inquest on the bodies of Captain P. Hamilton, of th« Worcestershire Regiment, aud Lieutenant Wynes Stewart, who were killed during aeroplane manoeuvres , , Major Popham, commanding the aeroplanes, testified that the accident was due to the breaking of; fiomothing'in the: engine, probably the connecting rod of a valve, causing n fracture of the struts supporting the wings, and undue disturbance of tho atmosphere. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
A BALANCING APPARATUS. London, September 8. Mr. S. F. Cody claims to have invented a biplane with automatic balancing apparatus, which will prevent any wind overturning the machine. Mr. Cody has been awarded the Royal Aero Club's gold medal. He eay3 he will possibly go on a six months' trip , to Australia,
