DESPOILING GRAVES.
PREVALENT IN CHRISTCHURCH. (Bγ Teltiiraph.—Special Comßeoneent.l Christchurch, September 9. There are. many varieties of tho snciik thief, but none probably is as worthy of contempt as tho person who will stoop to rob a grave of its floral emblems. Unfortunately there appears to be a number of such, deseerators in Christchurch at tho present time, and the first bunches of spriiiß ilowere, and even the young plants, have apparently been 100 great a temptation for the shameless vandals. Vases containing flowers have been stripped nf their contents, and young plants hove been removed from the roots and taken away. The matter was brought under tho notice of a "Star" reporter by a lady who has been a regular visitor (o one of lite, cemeteries for pome years post. Sho stated that, on a grave which sho tended, bunches of violets had been removed from vases within an Uom- of (he. lime at which they had been put in. A plant, at. tile head of the grave had also l.oen nithlnjsly uprooted and token away, (ho. footprints of the vandals being plainly discernible at the side of tho kerb.
