WAKEFIELD PARK. At last night's meeting of the City Council the City Keserves Committee reported that they had reconsidered the question of the application of the Wellington Football Association for the remission of the ground fees, -ElO 10s., charged for Wednesday afternoons at Wakefield Park. They recommended that their previous recommendation, viz., that the sum of £5 ss. bo charged in Ireu of tho charge of £10 10s., bo given effect to. The report gave rise to some discussion, but was eventually adopted by 10 votes to 4. Tho noes were Councillors Atkinson, Cameron, Godber, and Shirtcliffe.

HARRIERS,

The Central Harriers ran on Wednesday from the Thorndon Baths, and_ in view of the club championship next Wednesday a solid run was indulged in. Leaving the baths,the trail led toward Kaiwarra, cutting up over the hills to Wadestown, over to Wilton's Bush. A wide circuit was here made over the far hills to Ngaio. The usual run-in was held over tho distance from Ngaio to the baths, covering some three miles. Vnngo and Henderson took the lead soon after the first mile, the remainder of tho pack following close up. In the last halfmile L. H. Henderson obtained tho lead and won bv ten yards from E. Vango; T. S. Myers third, about 100 yards away. Ct. H. Scolt, C. H. Duck, and E. W. Ruttledgo finished fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively.

CRICKET,

VICTORIA COLLEGE CLUB. Tho fifth annual report of the Victoria • College Cricket. Club congratulates, members on the siicoMS'iof'tlio past'season, so far as tho senior eleven is concerned, but records its disappointment at tho nonsucews of the junior and third elevens. However, the material of which these two teams wore composed gives promise of a much better season to come, and tho commiireo looks, forward with confidence to seeing in the coming season cricket at. the College carried forward on a spring tide of enthusiasm to its highest water-mark. Three teams were again entered for the championships. Tho senior eleven experienced its most successful season to date. It gained fourth placo in the championship, winning four games out of eight, and its permanent rank as a senior team was thus assured. The junior team had not such a successful season as year. The third eleven suffered from lack of members throughout the season, and its record of four wins out of thirteen games was very creditable. For the first lime since its inception the club met the Auckland University College team, and was beaten by an innings and 203 runs. A fortnight's tour was also, undertaken at the «imo time, during which a number of country teams were played. Tho tour was an undoubted success, and the desirability of continuing such tours might well be considered. Attention is specially drawn to the possibility of arranging a tour in Canterbury this Christmas. Other events of the vear are reviewed, and the report concludes with an expression nf thanks to Messrs; .T. P. Firth. T. IT. Fleming, K. W. Bnrbidge. M. Eichellirmm, A. C. Gifford, Meek, and Von Tlaast, Professors Hunter. Picken, and Kirk, for their generous financial assistance, and to friend? at Hamilton, Auckland, Tanmaruuui, Marion, Palmerston, and to Mr. Ledward. of NeaurnloOiu, for kindness in making flip northern Jour such a pleasure. The annual meeting takesplace on Friday next.

The secretary of the Wellington Golf Club (Mr. A. S. M'Shane) notifies that entries for tho New Zealand golf championship close to-morrow. The monthly deck (bogey) competition -will bo played at tho Herciaunga links to-morrow. A suitable train service will bo arranged if suflicient support is forthcoming.

BROUGHAM HILL CLUB.

At the annual meeting of the Brougham Hill Tennis Club to bo held on Friday, September 13, the following report will be presented:— Tho membership for the past season was, maintained at full strength. In the inter-club contests Ihe club entered eight teams and won the D grade, and were well up in each of the other events, as follow :—

Men'*Competition.—Grade A, 2nd; grade B, team A, 2nd; grade B, team B, lilh; grade C, 3rd; grade D, Ist. Ladies' Competition.—Grade A, 3rd; grade B, 2nd; grade C, 2nd.
