THK NEW BANK. The proposal of the Commercial Bank of Australia, Ltd.. to commence operations in New Zealand appears to be in keeping v.itU the genernl policy of that institution. The Commercial Bank had branches and agencies ill every State of the Commonwealth, also at Port Darwin, in the Northern Territory. Mr. It. 11. Jlac.kay, an inspector of the bank has been cliarijcil with the duty of making the preliminary arrangements for opening up hiifcincps, anil he is ot present in Wellington attendiuK to matters. The head office of the Commercial Hank of Australia is in Collins Street. Melbourne, •and, according to the balance-sheet, for the half-year ended June 30, 1912, the net profit amounted to £65,103 as. 8d„ and there was brought forward £4877 9s. M., making avoilable £69,986 12s. The capital or the bank is £2,212,969, made up of 211,735 preference shares, £10 paid. £2,117.350 ami 191,238 ordinary shares. 10s. paid, £95,619. From the total paid capital is deducted £902,956 9s. lCd., the estimated deficiency in connection with tho Special Assets Trust Company, Ltd.. leaving the net actual capital £1,310,012 10s. 2d. The hills in circulation totalled £614.176 4s. 3d.; the Government deposits, amounted to £649,126 17s. 10d., and the public deposits, fixed and free, to £5,859,695 lis. 7d. The contingent liability in connection with the guarantee for pavment of the deposits in the Special Assets Trust Company, Ltd., fe stated as being £763,923 9s. lOil. The assets include coin, bullion, Australian notes, and cash at bankers £1,386,667 15s. Id.; money ot call in London £855,000; stocks, funds, and debentures, £58,600; bills and remittances in transitu, £519,918 6s. 3d.; and smaller items, making the vory liquid assets £2,891,705 ss. 5d.: advances and discounts account for' £5.779,865 19s. 10d.. and contingent assets, being the estimated value of the remaining iLSBCts of the old bank, £234,000. Tho directors of the institution are Mr. tt. 11. Colder, eh:iirniaii. Hon. Bobt., Harper, M.P., Hon. Duncan E. M'Bryde, M.L.C., and Mr. J. C. Syme. GOLDEN BAY CEMENT CO. The report of the Golden Bay Cement Company to be submitted to the fifth, annual meeting, to be held at the Chamber of Commerce on September 12, states that the profit and loss account shows the gross profit from manufacturing account to be £3879 17s. After bringing this amount into credit of the account, and providing for interest on debentures and head office charges, the Tesult has been that the debit balance of £945 15s. 10d., brought forward from the previous year, is wiped out, and a net result of £662 13s. 3d. to credit is shown. Of this, the sum of £500 has been written off the preliminary expenses account, and a- balance of £162 13s. 3d. Is carried forward to the credit of the prollt and lo«s account for the next financial voar. The directors have pleasure in informing the shareholder; that the works aro now in running order, and the output is being disposed .of in the various distriots of the Dominion with steadily increasing sales. The directors anticipate a successful result for ,the year which they have now entered. The directors retiring at this meeting are Dr. C. Prendergnst Knight and Cap!. Charles M'A.r.thur, who are eligible for re-election, ond have signified their intention of again seeking, office. Mr. E-. Bucholz. the present auditor, retires, but is eligible for re-election, and has signified accordingly. WOOL, SKIN. AND HIDE SALE. Messrs. Williams and Kettle, Ltd., Dannevirke, report on their wool, skin and hide sale, held on Tuesday, before the usual attendance of buyers. The catalogue comprised 18 bales and 40 bags wool. 1800 sheepskins, 200 bides anil salf, and 80 tins tallow. The firm report a total clearance in all lines.
