THE STOCK "SPECIAL." (By TeleertbDh.—Special Correspondent.) Palmerston, September i. The Alanawatu Golf Club holds its annual tournament next week, commencing on Tuesday, when very good entries arc expected. ; The Manawatu A. and P. Association hns received intimation from the Railway Department that the approximate fiines proiwsed for tho running of the special stock trains from Auckland and intermediate stations to the Palmerston Spring Show will bo as follow:—October 28: Auckland, depart G a.m.- Pukekohe, 8 a.m.; Frankton, 12 - noon; To Awnmutu, 12,40 p.m.; Te Kuiti, 2'»25 p.m.; Taumaruiiui, 0.15 p.m.; Ohnkune, 11.20 p.m.; Palmerston North, nrrivo 6.30 a.m. A car will bo attached to the train for attendants. As tho train is an experimental one, a minimum of twenty-four vehicles will be run from Te Kuiti and stations north (hereof on this occasion. Air. AV. T.- Penny, secretary of the A. and P. Association, is at present touring in the Waikato, for the purpose of inducing breeders to make use- of this train.
A meeting of representatives of ■ the various friendly societies in Palmerston last night again discussed the question of the establishment of a friendly societies' dispensary. After threshing the matter out at considerable length, it was referred back to the different, lodges. Tho engineer's report on the proposal to erect a traffic bridge over the Alanawahi River at Longbnrn was referred to at the meeting of the Borough Council last night by the Mayor, who stated Hint he proposed to call a meeting, of residents shortly to go further in the matter. He remarked that the bridge would appreciably shorten (he road between Palmerston and Wellington.

Carellc at the Starr-Bnwkett' last night A motion to raise Ihe minimum wage of the borough employees to 9s.,per day was moved by (he Mayor at the meeting of the council last evening, but this was defeated by n considerable majority of the council. They pointed out that there was nothing to provent, the engineer from giving good men more than the present minimum of Bs.
