THE BONUS ON BABIES.
PROTEST FROM THE CHURCHES,
By Teleeraph-PreßS Aasociatian-Oopyrieht (Rec. September 4, 9.30 p.m.) Sydney, September 4. A deputation representing the Churches has protested to Mr. Fisher, tho Federal Prime Minister, against the granting of a maternity bonus on illegitimate and stillborn children, on tho grounds that this would be conducive to immorality and abortion.
Mr. Fisher replied that no arguments would deter him from making the allowance to all mothers. They could guard against abortionists otherwise. If the Government was empowered to spend money caring for illegitimate children, he would see that it was done.
