GRADUATED TAX.
OLD. AND NEW SYSTEMS. . A return laid on the table of the House of Representatives -yesterday ■ shows a comparison of tho graduated land tax payable under the existing system and under the new system proposed in a Bill now before the House. The present rato for M'M taxable balance is XI 16s. 5d.; the proposed, £2 14s. sd.j for ,£7900, £i 2s. 3d. and £i os. 2d. respectively; and for other amounts as follow (shillings and pence omitted): —
