SHIPPING CO.'s MATCH.
At Seatoun on Saturday afternoon' tho annual match between teams representing the Union Steam . Ship Company and tho combined Shipping Companies was played. The match resulted- in a win for tho Union Company's men by 5 points to nil. Lack of combination was cfiscernable in the combined team, but on tho wholo the game was an interesting one, a noticeable feature of the play was the linekicking by both sides. Near tho end of tho first half of the game Gilbert (Union Company) secured the ball from a scrum and scored between tho posts. The try was converted by Dodd. A little later Gilbert was again conspicuous in an unsuccessful attempt to score. Drake nlayed a good game for Union .Company"and Dodd also played woll. For the'combined team, Jamieson was the most prominent. In the second half Union Company had the combined team well jn hand. They attacked vigorously from time to time, but were not successful in increasing th<>ir score, and the game ended as indicated. Mr. T. H. Jones was referee. '
The Petone fourth-class team defeated the M-asterton Red Star team by 13 points to nil. Carter, Dennett, and Bale scored tries, Dennett converting two. of tiicm. The Otago Rugby football team, which i.i on tour, arrived in Wellington yesterday from the south.
