; .WELLINGTON—MARLBOROUGH. (By Telegraph.—l'resa Association.) Blenheim, August 31. The Wellington l third-class representative team defeated Marlborough thirds by three points to nil. Mills scored a. try, whioh. was not converted. The game was.played in execrable weather, rain falling ■. continuously, 'l'ho ground wai very sodden and greasy, In the first spell the game was very even.i Wellington pressed severely at times, but the admirablo defence of Wynynrd, Hampson, Shaw, and Baker kept the opposition at bay. The same players made several openings, but under .the circumstances the ball could not be handled with any degree of accuracy. Longhurst had a shot at goal from halfway, after a mark token by Wynyard, but the attempt' iVos feeble. Mud almost obliterated the colours of players, and for five or ten minutes play continued in a heavy downpour. At one stage the" l'eds, attacking hotly, looked like scoring, but Wynyard intercepted a pass 'smartly, and with d dashing run, transferred play to the Reds' f|uarters. A force-down- resulted. In" the second spell the Reds attacked strongly, but the Blacks showed superiority in the locso. and deadly tackling. Good kicking' by Baker staved off danger at times. Prominent lopss ploy by Peak and Aldersley bustled the Red backs to their own line, and a force-down resulted. After a scrum,Mills scored. Fawcett failed to goal, and the closing stages of the game were slightly in favour of Marlborough. Tho score remained—Wellington 3, Marlborough 0.
