Astbury, Liberal candidate for Iho Eirmont scat, speaking at Manuia last night,, said ho favoured tho reform of tho legislative Council, but not as advocated by tho Reform party. Ho was of- tlics opinion that the time had come for the abolition of (be three-fifths majority, and 1m was pledged to (he 55 per cent majority. Tho proposal to incrcafio tho graduated land tax ho characterised as nothiug but a bid for votes.
