SOME NEW ATTRACTIONS,
Tho recent severe weather has not prevented tho growth of tho Zoo. Birds have been hatched and beasts have been born in, it. There have also been numerous contributions reoeived from outside. A well-known gentleman, who has been a constant friend to the Zoo from the timo of its beginning, recently presented an Egyptian goose—a bird of peculiar beauty, uiiliko any other gooso 011 tho pond. I'lio Wellington. Zoological Society yesterday contributed a satin bowel - bird, a pair ot bronzewing pigeons! and a pair of greenwing pigeons. Tho pigeons aro beautiful, awl the bowor bird is peculiarly interesting. The society will make a great effort to obtain a mat© for this bird, and asks tile 00-operation of all young ornithologists in tho attempt. Another gentleman, who has done much in making tho Zoo what it is, recently placed in it a pair of green-wing pigeons, somo very beautiful lories, and finches of several species. A pair of fine young black lnick havo been received from Perth. They aro in good condition, and will be exhibited as soon as (heir yard can lx> made ready for itlicm. A male rhoa, to tako tho place of tho unfortunate male that tragically died ivhilo hatching several of his offspring a year or two ago, and a mate for tho peacock arrived this week. Mr. Lo Souef, tho Director of tho Sydney Zoo, and Mr. Minchin, tho Director of tho Adelaide Zoo, have kindly consented to try to get somo animals that the Wellington Zoological Society wonts to purchase. It will 1» scon from this that tho Zoo is growing, and that steady improvement for it is assured.
