AYangainii Collegiate School winning. The local team met Wellington College on a perfect ground, defeating them by four points to three. Playing against tho wind in. the first spell, Wanganui had the better of the a"myi but ny score was registered. Wellington, like Wanganui, also played a better game against the wind than with it, and, a few minutes after the commencement of the second half, Mathesqn scored in a fair position. Stainton's kiclc missed. Within eight minutw of. timo Faber potted a goal in front of the posts, but under difficulties. Tho ball struck the upright just above the crossbar, and cannoned inwards amid a seeno of tho wildest excitement. These were tho only scores in a decidedly strenuous anct very interesting game, of which Wellington had slightly the better. The feature throughout tho game was tho splendid tacklta? and general defensive work of the "Wellington backs, who kept tho local backs quiet.

RUGBY FOOTBALL

WHERE TO GO T'O-DAT. Sayg the Rugby Union's official noto: This afternoon the chief match in town is tho representative game between Wellington and Wairarapa. This will be tho first meeting between these two teams for a couple of seasons. The visiting team is considered to be well up to tho standard of Wairarapa teams of past years, they having defeated such a combination as Taranaki earlier in tho season. On account of the Wellington representative team being on tour the local' union will not be represented by the strongest team, but-a strong team has been selected and should give a good account of Itself. Jlr.' H. Card has been appointed as referee. As a "curtain-raiser" tho final for tho Schools' Championship, between Petono and Terrace, will bo played at 1.30, and patrons may look for an excellent exhibition of Rugby. Tho fourth-class representative team, which was duo to leave for Palmerston last evening did not go on account of tho Jlanawatu Union being unable at the last moment to get a team to meet them. It has been arranged that tho match bo put forward for Saturday next. SCHOOL RUGBY. THE CHAMPIONSHIP LADDER! The position of the various city school teams in the 1912 championship competition is as follows:— Wins. MR. HINE, M.P., ON RUGBY. In The Dominion yesterday, Mr. J. B. Hine, M.P., was reported as saying, at the dinner at which the Stratford High School footballers were entertained on Thursday evening, that Eugby football ivas doomed. Mr. Hino desires now to say that he qualified tho statement by adding that if .the Rugby authorities did not wako up to the danger, professionalism would threaten the very-existence of the game. Ho advised that more stringent measures should bo taken by those inn control over Rugby in grappling with tho problem. AUSTRALIANS TO CALL HERE. The Australian Bugby football team, which is going to Vancouver, will make a call (it Wellington en route. Tho team expects to arrive in Wellington on September 12, and will leave in continuation of their voyage on September 14. During their stay in Wellington tho team will go into practice. On tho return trip the team will make a call at Auckland, and will remain the-o for two days prior to sailing for Sydney. Tho team will probably arrived at the northern port on December 16. Dr. Bohrsmann, who is a great Rugby enthusiast, is in charge of tho team. ' . ASSOCIATION. REPRESENTATIVE GAMES. It seems'safe to predict that tho "soccer" gamo will receive a fillip this afternoon when a boys' representative team from Auckland will try conclusions with the Wellington lads on Newtown. Park. Those who witnessed' tho boys' game between Auckland and Wellington on the Basin Reserve last year will remember tho display given by the lads on that occasion. Tho visitors of to-day are the pick of 19 boys' teams playing in Auckland and have come resolute to make a good fight. The game will commcnce at 3 p.m. Prior to tho principal game, a "curtain-raiser" will be played, the contestants being Jlanawatu Four Division representatives versus Wellington Fourth Division. Tho chairifian. presented a trophy to each of six coxswains. „ Messrs. C. J. and A. 11. Barnct were elected life members, consequent upon their completing twenty >'£, iU ' s , active members!) ip- with the club. The following country members were elected lion, Mo members (the number of years of membership being given in ixareiitncses): Messrs G. Hunter (38), E. (30), J. Connolly (31), C. IvcbbeJl (28), F. G. It was decided that tho customary bonus be paid to tho treasurer and secretary. I'lio chairman moved the adoption of tho annual report and baloncc-shoet, and in doing so congratulated tho secretary and treasurer and committee on their year's work. Mr. Ilulbert seconded the motion. Ho considered that tho club was in a satisfactory condition, and also congratulated the secretary and treasurer. Jlr. A. D. Bayfield, in reviewing tho report, thought that it would bo incumbent on tho incoming committee to 'exercise economy in tho matter of expense. Tho eolo reason of tho deficit on tho year's working was attributable to tho loss of members. He could assure those present that not a penny moro had been spent than had been necessary. Asked as to whether tho now locallybuilt boats had been a success, Mr. Boj - - ficld stated that they had given every satisfaction. As regarded tho club races, ho thought that they were not supported as they should havo been by members, lie went on to say that when members wore selected for regatta crews they should put personal feelings aside, aiid do their duty to the club. There was every prospcct that tho championships would l>e held in Wellington this year, and ho saw jio reason why members of tho Star Club should not bo successful. Tho question of the amateur status of the New Zealand oarsmen at tho present timo amounted to this: that they were in a little dominion of their own and could get out. The report was adopted. It was decided that in future a statement of accounts of every club social functions should Ixj posted in the club-houM one mouth after such function takes place. The election of officers for the ensuing season resulted as follows President, Hon. H. D. Bell; vice-president, Mr. C. Pearce; captain, Mr. A. D. Bayfield; de-puty-captain, Mir. J. E.
