M.P., of Montreal, and Jir. and Mrs. Darant, of Winnipeg (Canada), arrived at Auckland by the Mnrania on Tuesday. Mr. J..]?. Atkins, manager in New Zealand for Messrs. Walker and Hall, of Sheffield, leaves on a trip to Sydney today. Mi'. Atkins, who is president of the Wellington Swimming Association, will during his stay in Sydney endeavour to make final arrangements for tho visit to Wellington thisv coming season of a team of crack Australian swimmers. The services of Messrs. Frank Johnston ('cellist) and H. N. Fletcher (tenor) have been secured by tho Palmerston North Orchestral Society for a concert to be given on September 21. Captain Chas. M'Arthur, managing director 'of the Maorilaud Steamship Co., leaves Wellington for Sydney by the Moeraki to-day, Tho death of Mt. Robert Wallace, superintending engineer to tho Union Steam Ship Company at Sydney,' is announced in a cable message received from Sydney yesterday. Mr. Wallace was in the service of the Tosma'nian Steam Navigation Company until the fleet of that concern was purchased by the Union Company. At the time of the transfer ho was one of the engineers on tho Talune. On several occasions Mr. Wallace went I to Great Britain to superintend the building of steamers for tho red 'funnel fleet, and the big Vancouver liner Makura was built under his supervision. Mr.- C. B. Morison leaves for Palmerston North to-morrow and will return next woek. Mr. Borneo Gardiner, of Wellington, leaves for England to-day.
