JOHNSONVILLE TOWN BOARD.

e— Tho bi-weekly meeting of tho .Tohnsonvillo Town Board was held this week. Commissioners W. L. Thompson (chairman), A. ,T. May, W. Angoll, L. Lawrence, 0. .rcriißilem, and F. T. Moore, were, present. The town clerk, Mr. Wheeler, w.as absent through indisposition, and Mr. F. T. Moore acted as clerk (r> the lxiard. Tho resident engineer (Jlr. Fox) reported that the pas mains were practically complete and 35 lamp-posts wero in position and ready to light as soon as the water supply to drive tho turbines that generate the petrol gas was available. The hoard's consulting engineer (Mr. Rounthwaitc) reported that a test of tho water service would bo made at 2 p.m..on Thursday afternoon, and it was agreed that the members of tho board should witness the test. It was mentioned that the new lampposts consist of reinforced concrete, and, when this galvanised fittings are attached, will look ornamental as well as proving durable. It is believed that Johnsonville is the first town in New. Zealand to adopt reinforced concrete lamp-posts. It was intimated that should no defects appear in tho water service when tested the township will be lighted next week. It was resolved to claim the sum of £2 Ss. 6d. from tho Onslow Borough Council for poundage on a decrepit horse. The works committee was empowered to go into tho question of making household connections where ' owners request the board to do this work in lieu of employing private plumbers and drain-lay-ers. The lighting committee reported tjiat the expenditure to dato was within .£IOO : of the".£3soo raised for this wort, and that the completion of tho installation (for the money in hand) was likely to bo realised.
