« TO BE CURTAILED OB WITHDRAWN. The Wellington Education Board yesterday received a letter from the Education Department, conveying the intimation .that the question of the free supply of class books was under consideration, and that probably tho grant for miscellaneous readers (and possibly other books) would either bo curtailed or withdrawn, though grants for supplementary continuous readers would be provided for next year. It was not possible, tho letter stated, to givo further information at present, beyond the above intimation, as it was felt that tho boards should at once bo made acquainted with tho general lines of the proposed change, in order that care might bo exercised when, ordering supplies cf books.
