Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, Wanganui, report having held their usual fortnightly sales at Wanganui and Waverloy, and on August 21 and, 23 respectively. At Wanganui they had a fair yarding of sheep and cattle, anil competition was fairly keen for both. At Waverlby the yarding was small, but bidding for cattle wasparticularly keen. They quote:—At Wanganui—Sheep: F. and F. wethers (bush cointry), 19s. Id.; mixed aged ewes in lamb. Us. Bd. to 123. lid.. Cattle: Fat cows. £6 35.; yearling steers, £2 173. Gd.; wcaircrs, 25e.; springing cows, £4 15.-?., £5, £6 10s.. £7 2s. 6d. to £7 ss. At Wavcrley :—Ewes and wothers (mixed), 145.; fat bullocks, £9 45.; fat cows, £6 lis. fid. to £6 14s. (id.; forward bullocks, £7 18s.; yearling steers, £2 13s. 6t1.; heifers, in calf, £5 155., £6 12s. 6d.. to £7; springing cows, £5,55., £5 17s. Gd.. £G 55., £7 to '£7 55.; empty cows, £3 Is.; bull (2-year), £2 7s. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, Palmerston North report having held a successful sale of sheep at Marton on Thursday.last, when they offered come £CCO mixed hoggots, on account of Messrs. R. L. Gibson, Alex. Stuart, and J. Jl'Loan. There woro a large number of buyers present from the coast and Main Trunk lino, and ■prices realised were as follow:—Small mixed hoggets, Us. Id.; small ewo hoggets. Us. Bd.; medium.ewe hoggets,. 143. 6d.;small wether hoggets, lis. 6d.; wether hoggets. 13s. 4d\, 13s. 7d., 13s. 8d„ 13s. IM., to Ms. 6d.: fair owe hoggets, 15s. 4d., 15s. 7d.; good ewe hoggets, 163. 3d. to 18s. 6d. A line of 134 .Itomney ewe hoggets, of Mr. Gibson's own ,brecding, realised 19s. 3d. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report:—At Shannon on Friday wo had small yardings of sheep and cattle Tha bulk of the yarding changed hands at the following prices:—Ewes' and lambs, 21a.'3d.: fat ewes, 16s. lid.; ewes in lamb, lis. 7d.; store ewes, 3s. 6d. to 6s. id.; springing heifers, £6 55.; fat cows, £7; yearling steers, £3; dairy oows', £4 10s. to £5 ss. Messrs. Williams and Kettle, Ltd., report having held a very successful clearing sale on account of Mrs. K, Clanson, of Kintaki. The herd, which was a particularly fine one of forty cows, avcftigcd over £10, the top price for two cows being £14 15s. A line of 2-year heifers rca.liscd £6; 3-ycsr heifers, £6 IDs. to £8; yearling heifers, £3 65.; a line of ewos in lamb brought 145.: and pigs also realised very satisfactory prices. Messrs. Gillies and Nalder (Hawcra) report that, favoured by the excellent weather, they had a larger yarding than usual on Thursday, and a spirited sale resulted. The firm announced that next, sale they would provide a luncheon at the ycards in their new building. This departure will, no doubt,-be much appreciated by clients. In addition 125 empty cows were sold, 38 at £3 155., and odd lots from 3Cs. to £4 15s. Also, 50 springing cows and heifers were sold in the dairy pons-un to £10 10s. Messrs. A. H. Atkinson and Co., Ltd.. of Feilding, report that they had a largo yarding of pigs on Friday, the quality generally was not of the best, no choice wcanors being offered. Prices were, considering quality, about on a par with last week s rates. For poultry there was keen demand, and higher prices. They quote: Woancr pigs, 12s. to 145.; slips, 95., Us. 6(1., 12s. 6d., 145., 155., to 20s. 6d. : stores, 17s. 6d., 19s. 6d., 225., 245. 6d., 265. 6(1.; sows, lfe. to 405.; porkers, 325.. 395., 435., 415.: hacks, £4 to £5 10s. (By Telecraph.-Presa Association^ -o- ~,., t . Oamaru, August 25. Very little business has been done during the week, farmers being very busy getting the land ready for spring sowing. Sales Uavo been on a limited scale, and the better tone in the Home markets have also Induced growers to hold off in anticipation of better prices later on. Sales of wheat hnvo beon made at 3s. 7d. and 3s. 7Jd fcr velvet, 3s. 6}d. for Tuscan, and 3s. 7d. for mixed lines of velvet and Tuscan at country stations, all subject to reduction by commission. Oats are neglected, and there is no promise of activity in the absence of coastwise shipping. A Grade Cartons have sold at Is. IOSd. net at country stations, and B Grade Gartons at Is. l»d„ le=3 I commission, ox store. Oatsheaf chaff sells at 50s. net on trucks. In regard to potatoes, growors have been asking £8 and over, but buyers are shy of doing business at the figures. The Jloeraki is expected to take away 7COO sacks for Sydney on Tuesday, and contracts have been made for September shipping, but these contracts are said to be fully covered, and the price is not likely to be affected by them.
